You must have as your intention when memorizing the noble qur’aan, studying it and teaching it, seeking the reward and merit from Allah (سبحانه وتعالى). Make sure your dedication to it is for the sake of Allah (سبحانه وتعالى), being rewarded with His jannah (paradise), and achieving His love and pleasure because there is no reward nor merit or recompense for the one who recites and memorizes just to show off or to be praised by the people.

Allah says in the noble qur’aan:

{من كان يريد الحياوة الدنيا وزينتها نوفّ إليهم أعمالهم فيها وهم فيها لا يبخسون * أولائك الّذين ليس لهم في الأخرة إلّا النّار وحبط ما صنعوا فيها وباطل ما كانوا يعملون*}

15. Whosoever desires the life of the world and its glitter; to them we shall pay In full (the wages of) their deeds therein, and they will have no diminution therein.

16. they are those for whom there is nothing In the Hereafter but fire; and vain are the deeds they did therein. and of no effect is that which they used to do.  (Surat Hud, Vs 15 – 16)

Allah also says: {وقدمنا إلى ما عملوا من عمل فجعلناه هباء منثورا}

23. and we shall turn to whatever deeds they (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, etc.) did, and we shall make such deeds as scattered floating particles of dust.  (Surat Al-Furqaan, vs 23)

And Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلّم) said about Allah (سبحانه وتعالى): I am richer and in no need of a partner. whoever does a deed and associates any partners with ME, I  abandon him and his shirk(associating partners). [related by Muslim]

So Any deed that is not done seeking the face of Allah is cut off and rejected. In fact, it will be a source of loss and regret on the day of judgement. So he will be asked to take the rewards from the person for whose sake he did the act. So if he did it for the people to say that he has memorized the qur’aan, then it will be said to him on the day of judgement, “you memorized so that the people will say that you have memorized, and it was said”. He will then be pulled and dragged on his face into the hell fire.

Purity of intention helps and benefits the slave of Allah in his/her memorization against the plot of shaitan and his determination to make you fail in your efforts to memorize.

Allah says in the noble qur’aan: {قال فبعزّتك لأغوينّهم أجمعين* إلّا عبادك منهم المخلصين}

82. [Iblîs (Satan)] said: “By Your Might, Then I will surely mislead them all,

83. “Except Your chosen slaves amongst them (faithful, obedient, true believers of Islâmic Monotheism).” (Surat Saad vs. 82-83)

Allah also says: {إنّه ليس له سلطان على الّذين ءامنوا وعلى ربّهم يتوكّلون}

99. Verily! He has no power over those who believe and put their trust Only In their rabb (Allâh). (Surat An-Nahl vs. 99)

We ask Allah to protect us from the plots of shaitan and to keep us sincere in all our acts, ameen.
